Message to the Agent/Publisher
The Malacca Exile is my second novel and it is about a shipping security company in Singapore that protects merchant ships from modern-day piracy.
The news outlets are dominated by reports of piracy in several parts of the world right now. Many reports and stories about piracy revolve around Somalia but piracy has been on the rise in the Strait of Malacca. My story of modern piracy and the organizations involved is very timely. Indeed, I recognize that an action story of modern piracy and the actual current defensive tactics will sell very well.
I know the audience for this book and they demand technical accuracy as well as a high energy action-packed story. I use characters and organizations that actually exist. In addition to descriptions of U.S. military operations in the region, the reader will learn about the Al Quada spin-off; Jemaah Islamiyah. They will also experience beautiful settings in Singapore and the 500 miles of coastline on the east side of the Malaacca Strait and the horrors of Indonesia on the west. I know the far-east because I’ve lived there.
I also know the subject matter very well. I've even driven an aircraft carrier through the narrow Malacca Strait on four occasions. I've spent many years in the far-east and possessed the highest clearance (Top Secret ‘Compartmental’). I’ve participated in military operations such as blockade support and patrol of high-risk waters. I've attended and even provided briefings and tactical conferences that provide me with strong background. Of course, I have to be careful with my specific descriptions but I know my legal boundaries. The audience will get the best and most current information that I am allowed to provide. I admit right up front that the first 11 chapters are polished but the later chapters are still in an advanced draft form. The story is fleshed out and I am in the process of editing the advanced draft. Again, I know that this isn't the universally accepted way to query an agent but since this subject is dominating the news, I am certain that you will be pleased with the final product.
I am financially secure and I can participate in any marketing efforts, including travel. I hope you will read the extended synopsis and ask to read the entire manuscript.
